You’ll learn

  • A cross-section is the shape you see if you slice straight through a solid; in a prism that slice is the same shape all the way along, so for a triangular prism it is the triangle at each end
  • Volume of a prism = area of the cross-section × length. In the tables (page 11) this is written V = Bh, where B is the area of the base and h is the length
  • For a triangular prism that means ½ × base × perpendicular height × length
  • Surface area = the 2 triangular ends + the 3 rectangles (use the net)
  • Volume is always cubed (cm³); area is always squared (cm²)
