You’ll learn

  • Surface area of a sphere = 4πr²; volume of a sphere = (4/3)πr³ (both on page 10 of your maths tables)
  • A sphere has only ONE measurement (the radius) and is all curved, so its total surface area IS its curved surface area
  • A hemisphere is half a sphere, so halve both formulas: volume = (2/3)πr³ and curved surface area = 2πr². These are NOT in your maths tables — learn them

Formula used

A = 4π r², V = ⁴⁄₃π r³

Hemisphere: V = ⅔π r³, curved = 2π r² — MUST LEARN

Closed hemisphere: total = 2π r² + π r² = 3π r² — MUST LEARN

On page 10 of the log tables — read it off, don’t memorise.
