Learning work

• There are 15 constructions on the Junior Cert Higher Level course
• Bring your full set: compass, ruler (straight edge), protractor and set square
• ALWAYS leave your construction lines (arcs) showing — that is where the marks are
• Some say "compass and straight edge only" — then you may NOT use the protractor
• The 15 constructions: 1 bisect a given angle; 2 perpendicular bisector of a line segment; 3 perpendicular to a line through a point ON the line; 4 perpendicular to a line through a point NOT on the line; 5 line parallel to a given line through a given point
• 6 & 7 divide a line segment into equal parts; 8 a line segment of a given length; 9 an angle of a given number of degrees
• 10 triangle given the three sides (SSS); 11 triangle given two sides and the angle between them (SAS); 12 triangle given two angles and a side (ASA)
• 13 right-angled triangle given the hypotenuse and one other side; 14 right-angled triangle given a side and an acute angle; 15 a rectangle given its side lengths
